Panda Tutorial|Bamboo Forest Background

TECHNICAL

I followed the Panda tutorial almost until the end. I didn’t want the panda to be standing up so I modified it so it would be easier and it would look better in my eyes. All of that I did in illustrator. I brought it into photoshop and added a bamboo background in which I added the “Angled Strokes” filter to make it have texture and be more blurred. I added the “Smudge Stick” filter to the panda to make it look not so out of place from the background.

ARTISTIC

I used texture by adding adding a filter to the background and the vector panda. I also used the rule of thirds and put the panda on a third so it was more visually appealing. I used contrast by making the panda black and white and the background green and brown.

REFLECTION

Overall, I learned how to use shapes in illustrator to make objects and gradients to make them look better. I also learned that I should probably not procrastinate on independent projects because if I didn’t, I would have scrapped this panda and pen-tooled another panda. If I could do this over, I probably would have made it better by adding bamboo and making a realistic scene.
